The big Eclipse Weekend is here. Events related to this celestial phenomenon are already causing backups and the big show doesn’t start until Monday.

The Weekend Event Guide is sponsored by Abus Bike Locks. Thanks Abus!

Regardless of what’s happening in the sky — and in some cases because of it — people want to ride bikes on weekends. That’s why we do this guide.

Our featured event this week is the Chrome Warehouse Sale. This major apparel brand originally from San Francisco recently completed a move to Portland and they want to say “hello” by offering a bunch of great clothing, bags and other accessories at killer prices. They were also smart and nice enough to purchase an ad campaign here on BP to promote it. Thank you Chrome! Show them you appreciate their support of our community by dropping by the big sale Friday through Sunday at the old Shleifer Bldg in the central eastside.

Here are the rest of the best events this weekend…

Featured Event

Chrome Warehouse Sale – 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Saturday and Sunday at old Shleifer Furniture Bldg (224 SE 2nd Ave)
Recent Portland transplants, Chrome Industries, will be opening the doors of the old Shleifer Furniture warehouse and offering deep discounts on bags, footwear and apparel. Drop in for killer deals and the chance to win tickets to the upcoming Project Pabst Festival. More info here.

Friday, August 18th

Eclipse Hate Rally – Solidarity with Charlottesville
PDX Resistance will host this event as a response to last week’s tragedies in Charlottesville. “Portland has recently and historically faced tragedy at the hands of white supremacy,” organizers say, “We’ve seen the destruction that it brings both here and across the country. We will not tolerate hate in our city.” More info here.

BAE BAE PDX & Wildflower Baking Collab Ride – 7:00 pm at Irving Park
A women-only bike club and a women-owned bakery join forces for an all-inclusive ride into the sunset to devour a trailer-full of cookies, brownies and hand-pies. Bring cash for the treats. Ride ends at Overlook Park after a short tour of north/northeast Portland. More info here.

Saturday, August 19th

Total Solar Eclipse Bike Campout – Saturday through Monday
It’s a bike tour and celestial celebration of the total solar eclipse of the sun all rolled into one. Get into a perfect viewing spot on this guided ride to a private farm with excellent food and a solid group of folks to enjoy it with. A few spots still available. Grab your tickets now. More info here.

Beaverton, Banks & Beyond Bicycle Tour – All day in Washington County
Choose from one of three route options on this fully-supported ride that supports the NW Bicycle Safety Council. More info here.

OBRA Masters Track Championships – Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 am Alpenrose Velodrome (6149 SW Shattuck)
Just because you’re a bit older doesn’t mean you have to stop kicking ass and going fast. Come out and test your speed against the best track racers in the region. It’s your chance to win a coveted Championship jersey or just say you tried. More info here.

Sunday, August 20th

Sauvie Shootout – 9:00 am at Ovation Coffee (941 NW Overton)
Portland pre-eminent group training ride. New riders can get a free, one-day OBRA license just for showing up. Meet people, go fast, and have fun. More info here.

Outer NE Sunday Parkways – 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Get to know northeast Portland parks and neighborhoods while enjoying a 6-mile loop of carfree streets on PBOT’s brand new route2. More info here.

Portland to Salem Total Eclipse Ride – 11:45 pm at Safeway (8145 SW Barbur Blvd)
Join Daniel and Phil on a midnight ride to Salem to see the eclipse! They plan to arrive at a park in the path of totality with plenty of time for a nap before the eclipse begins. Ride is about 50 miles each way and there’s an option to use WES rail on the way back if you get tired. Remember to bring the supplies you need as stores won’t be open on the way down. More info here.

Zoobomb – 8:30 pm the People’s Bike Library (SW 13th and Burnside)
As the world turns and burns, Zoobombing is a great way to escape for a few hours. Roll out your fun bike (mini ones encouraged), get a ride up the hill on the MAX, and then roll down with reckless (yet legal and safe of course) abandon. More info here.
