This Just In: Sarah K. Benning

The Jungalow | Sarah K Benning

Chances are, you’ve seen the work of Sarah K Bennning  pop up somewhere on the internet if, like me,  you’re into plants and textiles. Probably more than any other artist, I’ve had dozens of people DM me on Instagram to say — “omg look at this Justina — I think you’re going to love this!!” and you are all correct. I do LOVE her work and to prove it, I’m sharing it with you all here today! (And if you’re not already familiar with her work then you’re in for a treat!)

Sarah K. Benning is a fiber artist who primarily splits her time between the U.S. and Spain. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and received her BFA in Fiber and Material Studies. Shortly after graduating in 2013, Sarah discovered her love for embroidery (she’s self-taught) and embroidery quickly turned into her full-time career.

She starts her works off first as drawings and then everything is hand-stitched so the thread “become(s) more like ink or paint than traditional embroidery, which accentuates the bold shapes, patterns, and color in the compositions.”

Sarah also offers a monthly Pattern Program, available on Etsy, so everyone can get in on the embroidery action.
