Backyard dreams for The Jungalow By The River

Justina Blakeney's Bedroom

We put a halt on our home remodeling after we finished the master bedroom and bathroom remodel earlier this year, mainly for financial reasons…but every morning when I wake up and look outside those French doors into our back yard, I start dreaming again. We have an old 2-car garage that we currently use for laundry and storage that is begging to be something awesome. Also, ever since buying this home last year I have been little by little convincing my husband to agree to putting a jacuzzi in the back yard.

And one other thing that needs to happen is some shade. We have a ton of umbrellas and random shade structures right now, but we have dreams for some kind of pergola, trellis, or maybe even some big trees that will help with the shade situation in our yard because it gets really, really hot.

Since right now we’re still in the dreaming phase, I vacillate between wanting to tile areas of my backyard to create a kind of riad-style Marrakech-like situation, wanting to go all native/drought-tolerant garden, vegetable garden OR wanting to do some crazy combo of all of those things.

We also want to have some great dedicated play space for Ida back here. And as for those garages? We are imagining everything from a studio apartment that we can rent out when need be to a guest house/ playhouse/ work house situation. Together the space adds up to about 500 Sq. ft. so there is a good amount of room to work with.

Here are some inspiration photos that get my mind racing:

A little jacuzzi in the ground like this, huh?

I’m just gonna have to keep on dreaming for a while until we have enough cash flow to float all these new ideas, but they’re brewing! I’m excited to keep on dreaming!
