This Just In: Alicia Scardetta’s Colorful Weaving

As we poke around around Instagram and other platforms, we come across a lot of cool weavings, but the work of Alicia Scardetta made us stop in our scrolling tracks. The bright colors and combination of techniques really draw you into the work of the Texas born artist, who is now based in Brooklyn.

One of the techniques Alicia uses in her work calls to mind hours spent crafting friendship bracelets in our younger days, on a much more elevated level of course. We love how she combines this technique with an almost painterly weaving style and negative space to create additional dimension.

Alicia recently announced via Instagram that she’ll be launching a new product at West Coast Craft next month- woven lariats in bold colors. Inspired by the hues of the Colorado Plateau, Alicia references Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon as inspiration for the palette. We think they’re a fun multi-purpose accessory- use them as a curtain tie-back, drape them around a window, or hang them from a door knob.
