Last weekend I had a chance to visit the San Diego Botanical Gardens. Nowadays, whenever I’m anywhere that has a botanical garden I make a point to visit. It’s so incredibly inspiring to see all kinds of cool plants I’ve never seen before and glean inspiration for, not only my pattern design work and color pairings, but also garden ideas and layouts as we get ready to redo our outdoor area at some point this year. I was with my mother-in-law and we just weaved around the garden, chatting and stopping to take pics along the way. It’s very soul cleansing for me — after a visit to a garden I feel almost the same way I feel after a visit to the spa.
My only disappointment with the garden is that they had no greenhouses. I love wondering through weirs cactariums and tropical greenhouses–there is something so magical about them, right? But they did have (what looked like) a super fun play area for kids with a tree-house play-structure and edible garden. Cute stuff. Below, I’m imagining some of my photographs as large wall murals.
