Of all of the things one can purchase for a home, I think that art might be the most personal — the thing that says the most about the person living inside the home. And while I think prints are great, there is most certainly something quite magical about owning an actual piece of art, that someone painted. It brings a bit of the energy of the artist inside the home. It lends a human touch to space. It’s intimate. That having been said, buying original art can be intimidating– and often times, very pricey.

I was excited when Saatchi Art reached out to me about their #NoBlankWalls campaign. While I had heard of Saatchi Art, I had no idea that they had a website with over 500,000 works of art at affordable prices. Buying original art does not have to be crazy expensive or only for the Peggy Guggenheims of the world. We can all be art collectors.

Of the half a million pieces of art, I chose Sonoran Trail by Michael Beauchamp. I love the slightly surreal quality of the painting. It reminds me a bit of Magritte, a surrealist painter I really love. Of course I’m very into the saguaro cacti, and the overall image of the desert and the open road gives me a feeling of adventure and endless possibility–definitely a feeling I’d want to bring into my living space.

As part of their #NoBlankWalls campaign, Saatchi Art is offering a chance to win a $1,000 gift card — which should give you a sweet little jump start on your new art collection. To enter, simply photograph a blank wall aching for some original art and upload the photo to your Instagram with the hashtags #NoBlankWalls and #Sweeps and include @saatchiart.
