The signs of spring are popping up everywhere: There are buds on the trees, flowers in the streets, and our bike event calendar is filling up quickly.

Today is also International Women’s Day and March is Women’s Month, so we’re proud to feature several events led by — and about — women in this week’s guide.

Here’s our full menu of special selections sure to satiate your appetite for cycling and socializing…

Friday, March 9th

Midnight Mystery Ride – 11:45 pm at TBA location
It’s the second Friday of the month and that means it’s MMR day! Founded by Portland’s Ambassador of Bike Culture Ayleen Crotty, this proud tradition of nighttime explorations and good friends by bike is the perfect cure for stress and cynicism. More info here.

Saturday, March 10th

Sorella Forte Women’s Club Ride – 9:00 am at River City Bicycles
The temps are rising a bit and peak riding season is just around the corner. There’s no better time to join the wonderful people of Sorella Forte for their weekly group ride. Come ready to spin and soak-up knowledge from one of the most well-established women’s clubs in Portland. Moderate pace. More info here.

Timber Logjam – 9:00 am at Banks-Vernonia Main Trailhead
If you were inspired by our recap of the Hell of the North Plains ride, consider rolling out to the annual Timber Logjam. Put together by the superlative folks at Our Mother the Mountain, this year’s course is sure to be full of new connections — both on the trail and among the riders. Expect the unexpected as you ride 55 miles with nearly 6,000 feet of climbing through the backways of Stub Stewart State Park, the tiny rural town of Timber, Wildcat Mountain, and more. More info here.

Dalles Mtn 60 – 10:00 am at Holstein’s Coffee Co in The Dalles
One of the original unpaved rides that helped launch a revolution! This epic route (in views and historic significance, not in difficulty) is something of a rite of passage for aspiring gravel riders. Make it a weekend and spend some time in The Dalles, a lovely city with a great riverfront bike path and downtown area. More info here.

20 is Plenty Yard Sign Pick-Up – 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Zenger Farm
Be one of the cool kids on your block and get one of the orange signs everyone is talking about. PBOT will be handing out free “20 is Plenty” signs at this event. More info here.

Tori Bortman will have you karate-chopping your way through bike repair in no time.

Sunday, March 11th

Beginner Maintenance Class – 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at Gracie’s Wrench ($150)
This comprehensive class led by expert mechanic Tori Bortman will give you the skills and confidence needed to enjoy a lifetime love affair with your bicycle. Tori’s warm and welcoming style is just right if you’ve been intimidated by bike shops or geeky friends. More info here.

Jack Frost Time Trial 2018 – 9:00 am to 2:30 pm at Vancouver Lake
It has begun. The traditional start of the 2018 racing season will get underway just over the border. Go for the pains and thrills, stay for the cool time-trial bikes and tailgating hang-outs. More info here.

Corvidae BC #7; Womxn’s Ride – 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm at Peninsula Park
Corvidae has a special ride for Women’s Month! Everyone is welcome at this ride that will be dedicated to strong feminine leaders. Show up with basic toiletries to donate to the Bradley Angle House, an organization that helps victims of domestic violence. More info here.

Lightning In A Saddle: The Evelyn Hamilton Story – 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Bike Gallery (Sellwood)
Portland author Joe “Metal Cowboy” Kurmaskie has a new book that tells the story of “cycling’s female Jackie Robinson.” He’ll be signing copies from 4:00 to 5:00 and then will share a presentation, “That will blow your mind and inspire you to cycle with abandon and fight for a better world.” More info here.
