BEADS – THE BOHO BLING

Beads are a great way to add color, texture, and some shine to your wardrobe, but what about your home? It deserves a little shine too! Beaded decor accessories like jewelry boxes are definitely a nice way to add a touch of bling to any room, but there are more impactful ways to make a beaded statement, too. One example is a beaded Yoruba chair.

If you’re like us and frequent flea markets that have African handmade goods, you’ve probably seen a beaded Yoruba chair before, but if you haven’t,  check out the picture above. They were traditionally used as thrones for Yoruba royalty — it can take up to 3 months to make a single chair! These chairs are handmade of wood and covered with thousands of beads that are assembled onto a fabric backing and sewn together in panels of bold patterns. These chairs are statement pieces of art that are also functional! If you are into the beaded look, but Yoruba chairs aren’t your thing (or you have pets and are worried about beads being scratched loose by little paws), don’t worry – there are a lot of other statement beaded home decor pieces you might love! Beaded chandeliers are also making a major comeback. They made a huge splash in the Art Deco scene (think Great Gatsby), but the beaded chandeliers we see now aren’t just made of traditional glass or crystal beads. There are a lot of chunky wooden beaded chandeliers that have a vacation home kinda vibe. We are also totally smitten with beaded sculptural pieces like African Ndebele dolls, stools, and ottomans.

We gathered up a few of our favorite beaded pieces on our partner site, Chairish. Check them out and let us know what kind of beaded bling is your jam!
